“Muse” is a term often used to describe an inspiration or influence behind an artwork. By calling a woman a muse, we are either idealizing or objectifying a woman, often ignoring a female artist’s accomplishments. This still happens today and has taken place for centuries. For example, at the London National Gallery in a collection of over 2,300 paintings spanning the 13th to early 20th century, only 21 are painted by women.

Muse pair is our collaboration with @Klotho369, a women-led clothing brand in Pakistan. Running up to International Women’s Day (8 March), we teamed up with Wardha and Misha, founders of @Klotho369, to create a piece that recognises women for their achievements. It celebrates them as powerful and independent role models, and not just as ‘muses'.

‘Women are more the muses’ artwork was part of Misha’s final thesis, which focused on women who struggle daily to be who they want to be. In her thesis, Misha found out that while in Pakistan women have put their fair share to increase their independence, women representation is still missing in our textbooks.
