This piece is inspired by controversy around women’s choices , starting with the basic one; her Clothes . In the recent past No other article of women’s clothing has courted as much controversy as ‘Pardah’ or ‘Hijab’. Pardah or "curtain" is a religious and social practice of female seclusion prevalent among some Muslim communities in South Asia.
Purdah was rigorously observed under the Taliban in Afghanistan, where women had to observe complete purdah at all times when they were in public Over the years scholars around the world have debated about the use of Purdah.Do women use Purdah as Protection, Oppression or Empowerment?
This piece is inspired by 1958 lithograph called the ‘Ladies of Caboul’ in Bamiyan, Afghanistan.. A woman deserves respect for who she is, not what she chooses to wear. A woman’s wardrobe doesn’t determine how progressive or modern she is. Every woman and man in the world has a right to feel secure, empowered and confident the clothes they choose to wear be it Purdah, or no a Purdah.
