Makhfi

Zeb-un-Nisa, emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir’s first child - a poetess, a sufi, a rebel, a beloved daughter and a scholar. Zeb-un-Nisa often had to write in secrecy. She took up the pen-name "Makhfi" (????) meaning the "Hidden One". Unknown to her father, she would write poetry in secret in Persian, Urdu and Arabic. Known as the gifted princess of the Mughal Period, Zeb-un-Nisa’s writing skill mesmerized the historians. Her poems were with theories of Sufism, but also with the experience and practices of her life. Her poems explore the themes of love, beauty, anguish, spirituality

Zeb-un-Nisa, once a trusted aide to her father was later imprisoned by him for the last twenty years of her life. Some say it was due to her alleged affair while some attribute it to her siding with the rebels against Aurangzeb
